Community Liaison Group established at Rock Farm

Construction is under way at Rock Farm, our solar farm near Ludlow in Shropshire, and from the outset we wanted to make sure local communities have a genuine voice throughout the build.

We’ve established a Community Liaison Group bringing together parish representatives from Bitterley and Ludford. The group meets every two months, either on site or virtually, to receive updates on project progress and raise any matters of local concern directly with our team.

Jon Reardon-Smith and Phil Middleton represent their respective parishes, acting as a direct channel between residents and the project team as construction advances towards energisation in winter 2026.

Once operational, Rock Farm will generate enough clean electricity to power the equivalent of over 16,000 homes annually and avoid over 7,500 tonnes of CO₂ per year. Environmental enhancements at the site include new tree and hedgerow planting, wildflower meadows and the continuation of sheep grazing, alongside a community benefit fund to support local initiatives once the project is up and running.

Mark Harding, Chief Development Officer at Enviromena, said: “Solar infrastructure works best when it’s built with communities, not just near them. The Community Liaison Group at Rock Farm gives local residents a genuine voice throughout construction, and Jon and Phil have been invaluable in helping us understand what matters most to the people who live and work in this area.

“We want Rock Farm to be an asset the community can be proud of for decades to come, and that starts with getting the relationship right from the very beginning.”

Jon Reardon-Smith, parish representative for Bitterley Parish Council, said: “The key to a successful build is good communication between the developer and community and understanding of what is going to happen during construction, replanting and power up.

“Good understanding helps ensure a quick build with the minimum of disruption and avoids complaints and issues coming up. Working together is vital.

“I am delighted to be involved with Enviromena and be part of the CLG helping get this project built as quickly and efficiently as possible for the community and developer.”
