The Sheikh Zayed Solar Power Plant is a 15 MW grid connected solar photovoltaic power plant located in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
The project is the first multimegawatt photovoltaic system to be installed in Mauritania and when completed was the largest solar photovoltaic plant in Africa. The system provides approximately 10% of Nouakchott’s power needs.
The project was developed by Masdar, funded by the UAE government and designed and constructed by Enviromena. Nearly 30,000 micromorph thin-film solar modules from Masdar PV were used to construct the US$31.99 million project, which offsets approximately 21,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.
